Dimensions and structure of job satisfaction in subjects with high level professional qualifications

This work was aimed to investigate knowledge of job satisfaction in the professional group of executives. To this purpose, after a pilot study, an instrument for measuring this construct was constructed and then administered to 3,707 people with the role of executive or industrial manager.
Exploratory preliminary analysis, intended to establish the degree of job satisfaction, were followed by confirmatory procedures using structural equation models. Alternative models were tested and then compared and, once the best model was identified, results were generalized using a multi-sample procedure.
Results demonstrated that the factors identified refer to four facets of job satisfaction: professional development, information, rewards, and relationships with superiors. Consistently with the existing literature on this topic, the multi-dimensional nature of the construct was confirmed also within executives and managers, a group that is characterized, however, by the presence of particular dimensions that, albeit distinct, appear to be closely related.
