Analysis of the structure of the Friendship Quality Scale: A comparison between factor models

The purpose of this study was to investigate the structure of the Friendship Quality Scale comparing a five-factor model with a two-factor model in an Italian sample. The Italian version of the scale was administered to 274 children (137 boys and 137 girls) with a mean age of 9.2 years (SD = 0.8). Confirmatory factor analyses were performed. On the whole, results of descriptive and confirmatory analyses showed good psychometric properties of the scale in both models. However, the five-factor model showed a better fit to data, whereas the two-factor one was more parsimonious.
