Measuring Organizational Trust: An Italian adaptation of the Organizational Trust Inventory (OTI)

Trust modulates the interaction between individuals and organizations and has a particular meaning in the explanation of intra- and inter-organizational relationships. The Organizational Trust Inventory (OTI) measures the three dimensions of organizational trust, as defined by Cummings and Bromiley (1996): Keep commitments, Negotiate honestly, and Avoid taking excessive advantage. This research presents the Italian adaptation of OTI which can be used to evaluate trust beliefs concerning colleagues, managers, suppliers, subordinates, clients, and the organization. A sample of 613 employees participated in the research. Results using Structural Equation Models confirmed the validity of the questionnaire and of the theoretical model. Moreover, we developed a reduced form of the questionnaire (OTI/R), which shows better psychometric properties compared to the long form.
