DOI: https://doi.org/The use of carbon-based nano materials in concrete has gained significant interest in recent years. Recently, carbon quantum dots (CQDs) and graphene quantum dots (GQDs) have become a promising nanomaterial for improving cementitious composite performance. This work provides an in-depth review of the recent research on the characteristics, impact, and synthesis methodologies of CQDs and GQDs, as well as their application to cement-based materials. The study examines the mechanism that facilitates the improvement of cement-based materials with the integration of CQDs and GQDs. The issues related to the utilization of CQDs and GQDs, including their dispersibility in cement composites and the cost-effective large-scale manufacture, have been addressed. This paper proposes a potential trajectory for the utilization of GQD and CQD technologies in the creation of sustainable, resilient, and intelligent building materials for future infrastructure.
