FRAGILITY OF HAPPINESS SCALE: EVIDENCE OF PSYCHOMETRIC ADEQUACY IN GERMAN

The concept of happiness encompasses individuals’ perceptions and notions regarding its essence and manifestation. This domain has garnered attention in happiness research, with findings indicating its profound impact on individuals’ mental health and well-being. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first study in which psychometric properties regarding the German version of the Fragility of Happiness Scale (FrHS) are investigated. The aim of the study was to translate and assess the reliability and validity of the FrHS. The study participants comprised 314 higher education students in Austria. A random sam-pling was applied. A quantitative study using a positivist paradigm and a deductive approach was used. The overall factor structure of the FrHS was established as a one-factor structure using exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis. Reliability was established with a Cronbach’s alpha coefficient of .832 in-dicating internal consistency, and validity was established by considering construct and concurrent va-lidity. The proposed German version of the FrHS can be used to assess beliefs concerning the fragility of happiness in German-speaking populations. This study, along with previous research, has demon-strated the reliability and validity of the FrHS in 12 languages. Future studies should explore the relia-bility and validity of this scale in additional languages and diverse cultural contexts.
